Insomnia Study

Surf*Net has concluded data collection on the insomnia pilot study.  Data analysis is currently being conducted in collaboration with HOAP.  As a matter of fact, the AAFP approved a no-cost time extension until June 30, 2005 for the project.  We extend our appreciation to those who participated in this study.  Once preliminary results are available, we will be sure to share them with you.

Follow-Up on DEER Study

Surf*Net participated in a multi-center ARHQ-sponsored DEER study – evaluation of errors of diagnosis.  Surf*Net was the only center that contributed errors of diagnosis in primary care.  Data entry was normalized, processed at Cook County Hospital, in Chicago, and completed in June 2004.  A team of study participants is currently doing preliminary data analysis.

Surf*Net is developing the categorization of errors of diagnosis in primary care based on subanalysis of data from the DEER study. More information will follow.

BCST – NIH Grant

Surf*Net is one of the four centers which had subcontracted with Brown University to participate in a four year NIH funded Basic Skin Cancer Triage (BSCT) study.  The study is a randomized trial of web-based curricula intended to increase skin cancer early detection and counseling of primary care physicians; with the ultimate goal of reducing melanoma mortality.  The grant was awarded in June 2004.  More details later.

Resurrection of the Ideas Subcommittee

Dr. Walter Elias has agreed to lead and coordinate the activities of the Ideas Committee.  The AAFP funded Insomnia pilot study is a result of previous Ideas Committee meetings.  The meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month at the Surf*Net office.
